Powers News
E-mail Update
The Amherst Schools will be sending two or three updates a month via e-mail to parents beginning in mid-September. Updates will highlight student achievements, innovative classrooms, district operations, and plans. Videos may be included as well.  If you are interested in receiving these updates, simply email our EMIS Secretary, Patti Killen, and include your name, names of your children, and your e-mail address. Thank you and Go Comets!!
Abuse Video Notice
In compliance with state and federal mandates, I will be presenting a child abuse prevention program to the students. The lesson teaches children to recognize and deal with potentially dangerous and abusive situations. I will present a video specifically chosen for the children’s understanding and developmental level as part of the classroom guidance program. The main points are say no, get away, and tell someone.

If for some reason you do not wish your child to participate in this program of safety, you must complete an exemption form available at your child’s school office.

Fox 8 - Amherst School Bus Safety
On the first day of school, Fox 8 participated in Amherst's school bus safety inspection with mechanic Fritz Grubic and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Read the story and watch the video!
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Parents may drop off students beginning at 8:10 - 8:30 a.m. each day at either the north or south entrance of the school. Parents may park on Washington Ave. or at Steele High School and walk their child to either entrance. Parents choosing to use the drop off zone in the North parking lot need to follow the directions of the aides on duty. Students need to be able to exit the car on the passenger side only under their own power. We ask that parents do not get out of their car during drop off for safety reasons. We ask that you please refrain from using cell phones during these times. During mid-day arrival, parents may park on Washington Ave., Steele High School, or in any available parking spot in the North parking lot. The drop off zone will be available to use from 12:35 - 12:45 p.m. if you choose to remain in your vehicle.  The south entrance to the school is reserved for buses only throughout the day.
Bus Transportation Information For Bus & Car Riders
If you live in a busing area, your child will automatically be assigned to a bus for the 2014-2015 school year. If you choose to transport your child by car and give up your seat on the bus you need to complete a "Transportation Change Form" available at the school or the Transportation Office prior to the start of school. Please call the school office at 988-8670 or the Transportation Office at 988-2633 with any questions. Bus schedules will appear in the Amherst News Times one week prior to the start of school.
