Amherst's Report Card
The Amherst Exempted Village School District is pleased to announce that our district performed well on the 2013-2014 state report card.  Our results show our students across the spectrum have continued to improve - even at the highest levels - and our results point to their momentum for further academic growth.  The teachers, staff, and administration at Amherst are committed to helping our students build the skills necessary to become productive citizens.  While the state report card is only one measure of success and there is always room for improvement, we are proud to see that our students' hard work is paying off!

Amherst received A's in five categories:
- Overall Value Added
- Value Added of Gifted Students
- Value Added of Students with Disabilities
- Performance Indicators
- 4 Year Graduation Rate
Amherst received B's in four categories:
- Value Added of Students in the Lowest 20% of Achievement
- Annual Measurable Objectives and Gap Closing

Congratulations Comets!  Keep up the good work!
Upcoming Veteran's Day Community Service Project
Powers School will be hosting a Veterans Day sock drive for veteran men and women of our area. The Cleveland Wade Park VA has asked us to collect new pairs of women and men's adult socks. During the week of November 3-7 there will be a collection box in our lobby for any size, style or color of adult socks. Please have your child bring a pair or package to donate. We will deliver them to the facility before Veterans Day to show our thanks for their service to our country.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Parents may drop off students beginning at 8:10 - 8:30 a.m. each day at either the north or south entrance of the school. Parents may park on Washington Ave. or at Steele High School and walk their child to either entrance. Parents choosing to use the drop off zone in the North parking lot need to follow the directions of the aides on duty. Students need to be able to exit the car on the passenger side only under their own power. We ask that parents do not get out of their car during drop off for safety reasons. We ask that you please refrain from using cell phones during these times. During mid-day arrival, parents may park on Washington Ave., Steele High School, or in any available parking spot in the North parking lot. The drop off zone will be available to use from 12:35 - 12:45 p.m. if you choose to remain in your vehicle.  The south entrance to the school is reserved for buses only throughout the day.
E-mail Update
The Amherst Schools will be sending two or three updates a month via e-mail to parents beginning in mid-September. Updates will highlight student achievements, innovative classrooms, district operations, and plans. Videos may be included as well. If you are interested in receiving these updates, simply email our EMIS Secretary, Patti Killen, and include your name, names of your children, and your e-mail address. Thank you and Go Comets!!

Please call the school office at 988-8670 or the Transportation Office at 988-2633 with any questions. Bus schedules will appear in the Amherst News Times one week prior to the start of school.
