Change in Start Time at Powers Elementary
The new start time at Powers Elementary School will be moving from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. for next school year. Dismissal time will remain at 3:30 p.m. The primary reason for this change is to increase instructional time at Powers. This will bring the student day to seven hours as it currently is in the other four buildings in the district. The student day in first grade, second grade, and full-day kindergarten will be 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Walkers and car riders will be dismissed at 3:20 p.m. and bus riders will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m. Half-day kindergarten and preschool hours will be 8:30 - 11:15 a.m. for the AM session and 12:45 - 3:30 p.m. for the PM session. Students may be dropped off in the morning beginning at 8:10 a.m. and at 12:35 p.m. for afternoon sessions.
Open House and Orientation Events
Open House for all parents and students in Preschool through Second Grade is August 18th from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.  We look forward to meeting you and encourage you to attend to meet your teachers and see your classrooms.  Kindergarten Orientation for both full day and half day sessions is on August 21st at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. You can attend either session if you are unable to attend your scheduled session.  Preschool Orientation is on August 22nd at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. You can attend either session if you are unable to attend your scheduled session. We suggest that parents only attend the orientation meetings.
First Day of School
The first day of school for First Grade and Second Grade is August 20th. Half-day and full-day kindergarten begin on August 25th. Preschool starts on August 27th. All morning arrivals begin at the new start time of 8:30 a.m. Mid-day kindergarten arrives by 12:45 p.m. Dismissal for all grades at the end of the day is 3:20 p.m. for walkers and car riders and 3:30 p.m. for bus dismissal.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Parents may drop off students beginning at 8:10 - 8:30 a.m. each day at either the north or south entrance of the school. Parents may park on Washington Ave. or at Steele High School and walk their child to either entrance. Parents choosing to use the drop off zone in the North parking lot need to follow the directions of the aides on duty. Students need to be able to exit the car on the passenger side only under their own power. We ask that parents do not get out of their car during drop off for safety reasons. We ask that you please refrain from using cell phones during these times. During mid-day arrival, parents may park on Washington Ave., Steele High School, or in any available parking spot in the North parking lot. The drop off zone will be available to use from 12:35 - 12:45 p.m. if you choose to remain in your vehicle.  The south entrance to the school is reserved for buses only throughout the day.
Bus Transportation Information For Bus & Car Riders
