Happy Spring Break!
Please have a relaxing and enjoyable spring break!  School will resume for all students on Tuesday, April 7th.
Community Input Needed
To all community members and district residents: The Amherst Schools is in the process of examining our facilities and enrollment trends. Before we create a long term strategy for addressing these challenges, we want to hear from the community. Please take this short online survey and share your thoughts!  Amherst Online Community Survey
Amherst Historical Society
Years ago, when Central School closed, the Amherst Historical Society was able to receive the two plaster relief murals that were hanging in the large study hall - Spirit of '76' and The Landing of the Mayflower. The murals have been tucked away in a barn on the Society's property. Last summer the murals were removed from storage and a plan was devised to showcase the murals within an Amherst School display. Mr. Terry Traster of the Historical Society drew sketches of the display. The two murals, the original school bell from the Union School, an aluminum replica of the bell, and pictures and descriptions of Amherst's one-room school houses will all be incorporated into the wonderful new display on the grounds of The Sandstone Village on Milan Avenue.

If so desired, the Amherst Historical Society would truly appreciate any donation to help cover the costs associated with this project. Individuals, alumni groups, or graduating classes are more than welcome to donate. Those helping to defray the costs will have their class years posted on the display. Please make your check out to "Amherst Historical Society" and on the donation line write "Amherst Schools Project". Mail your donation to the Amherst Historical Society at 113 South Lake Street, Amherst, Ohio 44001. If you have any questions, please email Charlie Marty, President of the Amherst Historical Society, at charliemarty1@gmail.com. Thank you!

Crushers Reading Program
Nord Middle School is very excited to be participating in a reading program titled Stomper’s Reading Club. This program is sponsored by the Lake Erie Crushers, which is a professional baseball team located in Avon.

In order to participate, fifth and sixth grade students will be expected to read three books with a minimum of 150 pages during the month of March. Students will be given a log sheet to document the book title, author, number of pages, and date completed. Also, there will be a copy of the log sheet available on the Nord home page. Students will be expected to write a brief summary for each of the books. In order to be eligible for this program, a parent signature must be included on the log sheet verifying your child read the three books. The log sheets will be handed out before the month of March, and due to their homeroom teachers by April 10th. The students who meet the requirements mentioned above will attend a baseball game during the school day. This game will take place on Wednesday, May 27th. Students will be offered tickets at a discounted price, and have the option of purchasing a food voucher. Also, students will be given two free tickets to attend a game in the summer.

Nord Homework Lab

Homework Lab is a supervised setting that offers students an opportunity to complete their homework, while receiving assistance from a certified teacher. The lab meets each week, Monday through Thursday from 2:50-3:50 p.m. In order to cover the expenses for this lab, there is a monthly fee that is determined by the number of actual lab days during each month - the fee breaks down to $3.00 per day. The month of April will have 15 lab days, thus the cost for the month will be $45.00. It starts on April 7th. Payment and forms are due by Friday, March 27th.
