Community Input Needed
To all community members and district residents: The Amherst Schools is in the process of examining our facilities and enrollment trends. Before we create a long term strategy for addressing these challenges, we want to hear from the community. Please take this short online survey and share your thoughts!  Amherst Online Community Survey
Amherst Historical Society
Years ago, when Central School closed, the Amherst Historical Society was able to receive the two plaster relief murals that were hanging in the large study hall - Spirit of '76' and The Landing of the Mayflower. The murals have been tucked away in a barn on the Society's property. Last summer the murals were removed from storage and a plan was devised to showcase the murals within an Amherst School display. Mr. Terry Traster of the Historical Society drew sketches of the display. The two murals, the original school bell from the Union School, an aluminum replica of the bell, and pictures and descriptions of Amherst's one-room school houses will all be incorporated into the wonderful new display on the grounds of The Sandstone Village on Milan Avenue.

If so desired, the Amherst Historical Society would truly appreciate any donation to help cover the costs associated with this project. Individuals, alumni groups, or graduating classes are more than welcome to donate. Those helping to defray the costs will have their class years posted on the display. Please make your check out to "Amherst Historical Society" and on the donation line write "Amherst Schools Project". Mail your donation to the Amherst Historical Society at 113 South Lake Street, Amherst, Ohio 44001. If you have any questions, please email Charlie Marty, President of the Amherst Historical Society, at charliemarty1@gmail.com. Thank you!

AJH Nominated National Blue Ribbon School
Amherst Junior High School is one of only 14 schools across Ohio that has been nominated for National Blue Ribbon School recognition from the U.S. Department of Education.  The National Blue Ribbon Program has recognized only 7,000 "Great American Schools" since it began in 1982.  As a nominee, AJH will have the opportunity to apply for the award and share their best practices with other schools from coast to coast.  Congratulations to everyone at AJH!
