AJH News
Grafton Inmate Assembly
We would like to make you aware of an assembly we have scheduled for 8th grade students on Wednesday, November 5.  The Amherst Police Department has arranged for us to participate in an educational program with the Grafton Correctional Institute.  This includes a one-hour assembly where an inmate shares with the students about the possible repercussions their actions may have and encourages them to make good choices.  This assembly is an outreach program by the Grafton Jail to be proactive and motivate students in a positive way.  We had this assembly last year with the 8th graders and it was received very well.  Other surrounding school districts that have participated in this opportunity have been Firelands, Wellington, and Oberlin.
If you prefer that your child do not attend this assembly, please call AJH at 988-0324 or email Mr. Coleman at  Please know that the Amherst Police Department will be at AJH during this program, as well as correctional officers from Grafton.

Amherst Junior High Talent Show
It is that time of year again for The Annual AJH Talent Show. This is the time for students to shine outside of the academic classroom and show us what they have! Extra permission slips can be picked up in the office.
The Talent Show is not limited to just song and dance, but a chance to display that awesome talent of juggling, magic, stacking cups, a tumbling routine, comedy, solo on piano or even a jazz quartet.

Groups only need to turn in one audition form with all names listed. However, every child needs a signed permission slip, which they could attach to the group's audition slip. Try-outs will be held on Wednesday, November 19, from 2:35 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and, if needed, Thursday, November 20, from 2:35 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Both try-outs will be held in the choir room.

If the student or group is accepted to perform, they must attend the dress rehearsal, which will be held on Monday, December 15, right after school.

Show Date: Friday, December 19. Any questions please contact Mrs. Volzer.
Boys' Basketball Information
Please see the AJH Athletics/Boys' Basketball webpage for information about upcoming open gyms and try outs. All boys trying out must have a current physical on file in the AJH office prior to trying out. Pay-to-participate fees are due the day after teams are announced.

Student Email Accounts

As a school district we are taking steps to enhance technology and learning in the classroom. As a result, the district has created an Amherst Google email account for all students in grades 7-12. These email accounts will allow students to safely communicate with their teachers, work collaboratively with other students, and share files without using a personal email account.

For many students, this may be their first personal email account. The good news is that these email accounts are monitored and owned by the Amherst City Schools. Therefore, unacceptable usage of the account may result in disciplinary action, loss of privileges, and access to district technology. It is our goal to help students learn to utilize email as a positive and productive tool in a school setting.

Parents: Please note that students will receive a letter with their email usernames and passwords. It is the same username and password they use with Pearson to check their grades on-line. (Activating your Amherst issued email account is optional.)

If you have any questions, please call or email Ryan Coleman or Rhonda Neuhoff. We are here to help.
